The brief
The agent had real photographs of completed houses on a building site and wanted the surrounding landscaping — lawns, planting, fencing, gravel drives — added in CGI so the images read as finished homes.
Our approach
Each photograph was cleaned of building materials and site clutter, then the landscaping was modelled and composited to match the camera and light. Feedback changed a boundary wall to a paling fence, removed a crane and unified the door finishes.
The result
Three photomontages delivered for the marketing of two lots.
What this render has to do
A completed house on a building site makes a poor sales image. The montage keeps what is real, the building, and replaces what is unfinished: mud, stacked materials and a bare plot. Real photographs of the houses sit at the centre of each frame, and lawns, hedging, flower beds, post-and-rail fencing and gravel drives are added around them in CGI.
The finished image has to pass as a photograph. It cannot look like a house pasted onto a drawing, so the sky, shadows and sun direction in the original file govern every new element. Where the sun is low and strong, the planting is lit and shadowed to match it.
Materials, light and camera
Each of the three views keeps the building exactly as photographed: black vertical cladding, a brick base, dark window frames and a tiled or slate roof. The CGI sits in front of it. There is pale gravel for the drive, clipped hedging behind timber fencing, mixed borders of cottage-style flowers and a mown lawn that runs to the kerb.
Small uplighters glow in the dusk frame, while a low sun flares across the second image and rakes the gravel. We never change the camera. The lens, height and perspective belong to the photographer, and the landscaping is built to a virtual camera matched to them so the ground plane lines up.
How a set like this is built
A photomontage starts with the site photograph, not a model. We receive the original files, note the viewpoint and lens, and clean the frame first so that building materials, site clutter and temporary items come out.
Then we match a virtual camera to the image, model the landscaping in 3D so it has true perspective and scale, and composite it back with light to suit. Feedback on this set was precise and typical: a boundary wall became a paling fence, a crane standing in the sky was removed, and the door finishes were unified so neighbouring houses read as one consistent group. Because the landscaping is modelled rather than painted, changes like these are quick. A closely related technique with a planning purpose sits under our verified views service.
Working with us on a similar project
Send the photographs at full resolution, not screenshots, and note what to keep and what to replace: fencing, driveway surface, lawn or planting. House-and-land packages often need exactly this, where the photograph shows the real home and the CGI shows the finished garden.
Montage like this is quoted per project, because the price depends on how much clutter comes out and how much landscaping goes in. You receive a fixed quote within one business day, then pay 50% up front and 50% when the draft is approved, and you can ask for up to four revision rounds. Our briefing guide lists what to supply, and our 3D exterior renders show the fully modelled alternative, with interior renders available to complete a lot's marketing set. Our guide for property developers shows where montage fits in a launch.
Questions
Planning & photomontage: questions clients ask
Yes. We clean the site clutter out of the photograph, then model and composite lawns, planting, fencing and drives to match the camera and light. The building stays as photographed, which keeps the image honest while the surroundings look finished.
No. Photomontage is quoted per project, because the work depends on how much has to be removed and added. We send a fixed quote within one business day of seeing your photographs, so the price is settled before work starts.
Because the landscaping is modelled, swapping a wall for a paling fence or changing a planting scheme is straightforward. You have up to four revision rounds, and we can remove distractions such as cranes or parked vehicles in the same pass.
