How Much Does 3D Rendering Cost in Australia?

Short answer: in Australia a photoreal 3D render of a house, townhouse or apartment costs from about A$345 for an interior and A$445 for an exterior at a studio that publishes its prices, rising to several thousand dollars per image for large buildings, verified views and precinct aerials. Furnished 3D floor plans start around A$445, aerials around A$795, and animation is priced per second — ours is A$65 per second with a 30-second minimum. Every figure on this page is a real starting price, not a teaser: the exact number for your scope is confirmed in writing before any work begins.

Most Australian studios do not publish prices, which is why this question is hard to answer with a search. We do, so this guide uses our real rate card, explains exactly what moves the number, and gives worked examples for the projects people most often ask about.

What makes a render cost more

Seven things move a render above its starting price. Knowing them lets you shape the brief to the budget.

Size and complexity of the building

A duplex is a day of modelling; a 200-apartment tower with a podium is a week. Detailed facades — curved curtain walls, intricate screening, heritage detailing — take longer than flat elevations. Modelling is the largest single cost in any render.

Number of views

The first image carries the modelling cost. Each additional view of the same model costs less — usually meaningfully so — which is why a set of five images costs far less than five times the single-image price, and why volume pricing starts at five.

Level of styling

An unfurnished exterior costs less than a fully landscaped one with people, cars and mature planting. A lightly furnished interior costs less than a display-suite-grade room with art, books, plants and a lit fireplace. Say how much life the image needs.

Context and site modelling

A building on a plain site costs less than one where neighbours, street trees, a slope and a view all have to be modelled accurately — but for planning renders and premium marketing, accurate context is the point.

Verified views and drone composites

A verified view needs a surveyed camera position, a site photograph, lens matching and a documented methodology; a drone composite needs a licensed operator and, near airports or the harbour, CASA approvals. Both add cost and a few days.

Resolution and format

4K is standard and covers brochures, portals and most hoardings. Billboard and display-wall sizes at 8K or more take longer to render. Layered files, image sequences and multiple aspect ratios add time.

Timeline

5–7 business days is standard. Rush delivery in 48–72 hours carries a surcharge because the job jumps the queue and runs overnight.

What makes a render cost less

  • Ordering the full set at once — stills, floor plans, variants and animation from one model
  • Locking the finishes schedule before briefing, so revisions stay inside the included rounds
  • Supplying a native 3D model (Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp) rather than 2D drawings
  • Choosing variants (dusk, colour schemes, facade options) over separate new images
  • Providing survey, landscape plan and site photos up front so context is not researched
  • Naming one approver and being available on the review days

Worked examples

Realistic scope and price bands for the projects we are most often asked about. Actual quotes depend on the drawings.

Custom home or knock-down-rebuild

One exterior hero, one rear or alfresco view, two interiors and a furnished floor plan: roughly A$2,025 at starting prices, before volume pricing. A single facade render for a listing is A$445.

Duplex or small townhouse project

Streetscape hero, one dusk variant, two interiors per unit type in one scheme, floor plans per type: typically A$1,580–A$3,160 depending on the number of types, before volume pricing.

Boutique apartment launch (20–40 apartments)

Hero, streetscape, dusk, three interiors in two colour schemes, amenity view, four floor plans and a key plan: typically A$4,495–A$6,420 before volume pricing. Add a 60-second animation from about A$3,900.

Builder facade range

Ten designs with four facades each: the first facade of each design is a full render, the other three are variants, so the range is quoted as a package well below forty times the single price.

Industrial estate pre-leasing

Aerial masterplan, estate entrance, unit and yard view: typically A$1,685–A$2,925, plus a drone backplate if a composite is needed.

How Australian 3D rendering prices compare

Freelance marketplaces advertise renders from under $200, and a skilled freelancer can be good value for a single simple image — but the price usually excludes context, styling, revisions beyond one round and any accountability on the deadline, and quality varies widely. Studios working without Australian planning context can quote low per-image prices, but a verified view needs a surveyed camera position and a documented method, so check that any quote covering planning work says how that will be produced. Prices across the Australian market vary widely, and the larger firms charge more for precinct-scale work and design-competition imagery.

The right comparison is total campaign cost and outcome, not the lowest single-image price: a render that has to be redone, or that a buyer sees through, costs more than one done properly the first time.

How to get a fixed quote

Send plans, elevations, sections and a finishes schedule with a note on which images you need and what each is for. You get a fixed AUD price and a delivery date within one business day. The quote is the invoice — there is no hourly billing — and payment is 50% to start, 50% on approval of drafts. Read our briefing guide for the checklist that produces the most accurate quote.
